Each campus brings own personality to Cinco de Mayo celebration

The Varnett Public School continued its annual tradition of celebrating Cinco de Mayo, with separate performances at each campus.

Dr. Margaret Stroud, Varnett's interim superintendent, made the rounds to Southwest PreK, Southwest, Northeast and East campuses as students danced and performed on this special day.

Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican army’s 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War (1861-1867). A relatively minor holiday in Mexico, in the United States Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage, particularly in areas with large Mexican-American populations, according to history.com.
