Welcome to the 2016-17 School Year!

Welcome back to The Varnett Public School district for the 2016-17 school year! I hope that you all had a relaxing summer and are eager to begin another successful year for our students.

It has been a busy summer here in the district. We have been busy hiring new staff and putting everything in place to ensure we are ready for you. Our operations staff has done an amazing job renovating on each campus. The custodial staff has been busy getting classrooms and hallways polished and ready for staff and students to arrive. Supplies have arrived and I think I also noticed some of you have been busy getting classrooms ready.

This year we are committed to continue to build to the core by focusing on our Mission and Vision, and strengthening our instructional framework which includes strategies and systems we began last year, While continuing the implementation of the initiatives already in place, this year we will also focus on improving attendance, parental involvement and engaging businesses and other community agencies.

New programs for our students include the Accelerated Bridge Program (ABP) for students who are ready for additional challenges and Rosetta Stone for learning second languages in English or Spanish.

The 2016-17 school year begins on Monday, August 8, 2016. All faculty and staff are to attend our district-wide professional development activities which are aligned with this year's focus: "Building to the Core."
