Northeast students again will march in MLK parade

Northeast Campus students are doing their part to honor the late civil rights leader, The Rev. Dr. Martin Luhter King, Jr.

More than 50 cheerleaders will march in the 23rd Annual MLK Grande  Parade on Monday, a national holiday in honor of Dr. King. The parade will start at 10 a.m. in mid-town near the Houston Community College Central Campus.

"This year, along with the Varnett swag,  we will be handing out oranges as we promote a healthier lifestyle," said Ms. Toni Fisher, the campus director. The cheerleaders will also toss Frisbees, Varnett bags and pens into the crowd.

The parade, featuring 15 floats and 30 marching bands, will last about two hours over a one-mile route.

The NE participation in the parade has been an annual event for the last few years. We hope to see Varnett parents and supporters cheering on the students!
