A friend of Varnett's, local store donate 360 books to library

A book drive at Michaels arts and crafts store in Sugar Land has led to the donation of about 360 books to The Varnett Public School's Southwest Campus library.

Ms. Anjelica Duncan, who has a nephew in Ms. Monique Thornton's third-grade class, chose The Varnett Public School and another charter school as recipients.

The donation includes children's books, coloring books and novels that are appropriate for all grade levels.

Ms. Duncan was selected to distribute the books and Varnett was on her mind.
"I needed to find a school to give them to and I figured the regular schools had enough," she said. The books came in 12 boxes.

Ms. Ni'Cole Mukes, the Southwest Campus director, and Ms. Deloris Jackson, the campus librarian, expressed appreciation.

"We are so grateful to Michaels and to Ms. Duncan for their contribution to our children's academic success through literacy," Ms. Mukes said.
