March 12, 2020: Coronavirus Updates

Dear Varnett Family,

The Superintendent and the leadership team have been closely monitoring the effects of the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). As you know, the safety of our students and staff is our number one priority, and we continue to take precautionary measures to ensure safety. There are no reported cases of coronavirus among our students or staff. This situation changes rapidly, and we react as quickly as possible to the changes.

Travel Restrictions

Effective March 11, 2019, all student and staff travel has been canceled for March. All afterschool activities have been canceled until further notice. Next week (March 16-22), students and staff will be on spring break.  If members of our team, you, or your child travel during spring break to a Level 2 or Level 3 country during spring break, please complete the appropriate survey form below and submit.

Campus Visitations

Beginning March 23 and until further notice, Varnett will limit campus visitations, including parents and volunteers. Parents will only be allowed to drop off and pick up students with a few exceptions. Parents will be allowed to participate in  Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD)  meetings.

During this health crisis, we will continue to follow the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Texas Department of State Health Services and urge you to do so as well. If there are new developments that would warrant a change in our procedures when we return on March 23, a notification will be posted on our website.

During spring break we ask that you continue to use best practices from public health authorities about COVID-19:
  • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching one’s eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when sick.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with the inside of your elbow when you cough or sneeze.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
