Each month, the Communications Department will interview a Varnett employee in relation to the theme of the month. For example, March is Social Work Month so we decided to interview Varnett’s own social worker, Ms. Janis White.
Ms. White, a native Houstonian who grew up in a middle class family, joined The Varnett Public School in August 2021. She graduated from Texas Southern University and earned a BA in Social Work and Executive Master of Public Administration.
“After 15 years of working in the penal system I decided to change careers because I found education to be an interesting career,” she says.
