School make-up days announced due to boil water notice for the city of Houston

To All Varnett Parents:

As you are aware, the City of Houston issued a boil water notice for the entire city after the water pressure dropped below the level required by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. This impacted The Varnett Public School’s (Varnett) ability to provide safe food preparation, hydration and hygiene capabilities.  To ensure the health and safety of students and staff, all Varnett schools and offices were closed on November 28-29, 2022.

We have been informed that Varnett must make up the two days of lost instructional time for students, which required us to revise the Varnett academic calendar. January 5, 2023, January 6, 2023, and April 21, 2023, are now full-day instructional days, and all students are to attend school in order for Varnett to remain in compliance.

We realize the calendar revision could impact your family plans, so we are releasing this notification to you immediately following the Varnett Board of Directors’ approving the revised calendar on Monday, December 12, 2022.

Thank you in advance for ensuring that your children will come to school on January 5, 2023, January 6, 2023, and April 21, 2023, prepared for a full day of instruction.
