Student describes Civil War reenactment

Liendo Plantation near Hempstead is a place to learn about the history of the Civil War in Texas. The plantation house built by slaves is still standing today. The house was built of wood, with a stone fireplace for cooking and keeping warm. The inside was very nice with furniture from the time of the Civil War. The workers were dressed in Western wear for the Civil War. The dresses the women wore were very big.

After touring the house we watched a re-enactment of a fight between the Union and Confederate armies. The people dressed in costumes from both sides. The soldiers from the North rode horses and the soldiers from the South were on foot.
