Dear Varnett Parents:
The Varnett Public School has canceled all classes today — Friday, Jan. 24 — as a result of this morning’s inclement weather and the related potential for dangerous road conditions.
Varnett officials have been closely monitoring the weather and have determined that icy road conditions in some parts of the Houston area may make for dangerous driving. As a result, all Varnett schools and district administrative offices are closed for the day.
Tutorials for Saturday, Jan. 25, also are canceled.
Classes will resume as usual on Monday, Jan. 27.
The primary danger from this Arctic front will be from extended periods of temperatures at or below freezing, with a potential for sleet and freezing rain. Varnett reminds all parents to practice the "Four P's" of cold weather preparedness:
Protect People
Protect Pets
Protect Pipes
Protect Plants
Helpful Resources:
CDC Winter Weather Safety
FEMA checklist for preparing for cold weather
National Weather Service Wind Chill Chart
