Out of an abundance of caution, Southwest Public Schools will have a 1:00 PM early dismissal on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, due to the forecast for inclement weather, including the potential for heavy rainfall and street flooding in parts of the Houston area during the regular dismissal time.
This developing and somewhat unpredictable weather pattern may create hazardous travel conditions tomorrow afternoon. The safety of our students, staff, and families remains our highest priority, and we want to ensure everyone has adequate time to travel home safely before conditions potentially worsen.
Please stay tuned for further updates as we continue to monitor weather and roadway conditions.
Thank you for your understanding and flexibility.
WEATHER MONITORING - August 31, 2026
The Varnett Public School is closely monitoring the weather conditions in the city of Houston and surrounding areas.
As always, the safety of our students is our priority. We encourage our school community to stay weather-aware and monitor local weather updates.
Should weather conditions require any changes to the school schedule or activities, The Varnett Public School will communicate directly with families through our official school communication channels. Please make sure your family contact information in Skyward is current and up to date.
The safety of our students, staff, and families remains our highest priority.
