Out of an abundance of caution, Southwest Public Schools will have a 1:00 PM early dismissal on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, due to the forecast for inclement weather, including the potential for heavy rainfall and street flooding in parts of the Houston area during the regular dismissal time.
This developing and somewhat unpredictable weather pattern may create hazardous travel conditions tomorrow afternoon. The safety of our students, staff, and families remains our highest priority, and we want to ensure everyone has adequate time to travel home safely before conditions potentially worsen.
Please stay tuned for further updates as we continue to monitor weather and roadway conditions.

Meet the Driver is scheduled for August 5th & 6th from 8am to Noon, and 1:15pm to 4pm!
The Varnett Public School proudly provides FREE daily transportation for all eligible students. To ensure your child is assigned to a morning and afternoon route, families must complete the transportation registration process before the start of school.
Visit the VPS Transportation page on our website to register your child for daily morning and after-school bus service. Early registration helps us plan efficient routes and ensures your student is ready for the first day of school.
