Varnett prepares for Cinco de Mayo celebration

Hundreds of students will dress in colorful attire for the Cinco de Mayo celebration at the Southwest Campus playfield.

Students and staff from all three campuses will come to the May 5 event and the entire family is welcome.

Dress up in your best “Cinco de Mayo” attire and enjoy the Mariachis, refreshments, music and student entertainment. Students have been practicing their dance steps in the days leading up to the event.

In between performances will be music, song, dance and a host of other activities.

The Cinco de Mayo celebration is an annual affair at tVarnett, a 1,500-student charter school. The three-campus district serves about 60 percent African American and nearly 40 percent Hispanic students.

Parents should remember to come by the school office first to complete a security check.
