Former Presidents Clinton, Bush thank Varnett students for Haiti relief donation

Superintendent Annette Cluff received a thank-you letter from the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund in response to a $6,000 donation made by Varnett's students, parents and staff.

Varnett raised the money after an earthquake devastated Haiti in January.

The letter says:

Dear Students:

Thank you for your generous donation to the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund.

We want you to know how impressed we are with your dedication to the people of Haiti. You've shown a remarkable degree of compassion and selflessness, and we appreciate the important role you play in bringing relief to those devastated by the earthquake. Thanks to your donation, we will be able to provide even more food, water, shelter and medical supplies to the Haitian people and help them rebuild their country.

We firmly believe that you have the power to improve our world. By coming together to support a cause, you help strengthen the future of all our communities. We are proud of you for the wonderful job you've done so far, and we encourage you to think about ways you can continue to contribute.

We'd also like to thank all the teachers and faculty for their help in organizing this fundraiser. With your continued support, we will help Haiti build back even better than before.

Keep up the good work!
Sincerely,
Bill Clinton  George Bush

On Jan. 22, Varnett's students paid $2 to wear jeans and a red, white or blue shirt in recognizing the colors of the Haiti flag. They also solicited parents and teachers to join them by asking them to donate $5 or whatever they could give.

Mrs. Cluff thanked all those who participated and said the fundraiser was representative of Varnett's commitment to help students give something back to the community.
