Varnett's SW cheer team demonstrates energy, skill at Mardi Gras Parade in Galveston

GALVESTON - Varnett's Southwest campus cheer team did it again!

The collection of 20 performers and the Royal Court, who call themselves the Eagles, drew cheers and applause as they participated in The Mardi Gras! Galveston, The Firefighters Children's Parade on Sunday, February 19, 2023.

Next up is Dallas, where the Eagles will compete in the SSAP Cheer and Dance Nationals on March 4. They earned that distinction after taking first place in the SSAP Cheer and Dance regionals at Thurgood Marshall High School in Missouri City.

The Mardi Gras parade in Galveston began at 25th Street and Santa Fe Place and ended at 25th and Strand. Mardi Gras beads were aplenty as members of Varnett Royal Court handed them out to appreciative parade goers.

The cheer team engaged in a number of maneuvers to music brought by the coaches.

Everybody had a great time and many thanks go to coaches Ms. Francesca Mims and Ms. Dedra Glasco.

Varnett is establishing itself as a premiere leader in cheer team competition.

Way to go, Varnett! We'll see you in Dallas.
