Cinco de Mayo will be celebrated on May 4 this year

Dear Parents:

Cinco de Mayo falls on a Saturday this year so Varnett will celebrate the day on Friday, May 4, at the Southwest Campus. All three campuses will come together and you are encouraged to bring your entire family. Your children must complete and return a permission slip by April 27 in order for them to attend.

The band Mango Punch will perform and lunch will include burrito tacos, Mexican corn, fruit, pineapple, mango, papaya and Capri Sun juice.

Dress up in your best Cinco de Mayo attire and remember to stop by the school office to complete your security check.

East and Northeast Campus students will leave their school at 8:15 a.m. and will return at 1:30 p.m.

Cinco de Mayo—or the Fifth of May—commemorates the Mexican army's 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War (1861-1867). The entertainment will include the dramatization of the Battle of Puebla.
