Poems are part of the standards for the STAAR (The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness) test for third through fifth graders.The campus also wanted to introduce poetry to Prek through second-grade students. April is National Poetry Month

Varnett 5th graders talk about their future
As Superintendent M. Annette Cluff was honored by making the cover of the 5th edition of "Who's Who in Black Houston," Varnett 5th graders talked about their own future via videotaped message and said they would like to be included in a Who's Who book, too, some day.
