Student and Employee Health Protocols

STUDENT HEALTH PROTOCOLS:
 
All students will have a temperature check before entering the building. If a student has a fever upon entry or other symptoms of COVID-19, he/she will be isolated. Parents will be called immediately to pick up the student and it will be recommended that they see their doctor the same day. The parent must notify the school nurse with the results of being COVID-19 free in order to return the next day. A doctor's note will be needed to return.
 
  • The Harris County Health Department says that if your child is exhibiting any of the following symptoms, they are required to stay home: fever, cough, trouble breathing (call 911), sore throat, congestion, running nose, chills, muscle pain, headache, loss of taste or smell, salty taste, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue or abdominal pain.
  • All students will be instructed on methods to protect themselves and others from COVID-19 at school.
  • All students will practice appropriate 6 ft. social distancing, hand hygiene and wearing face coverings.
  • All students will be trained on proper handwashing techniques and participate in scheduled hand washing several times throughout the day.
  • Students will not share school supplies. Supplies may be placed in plastic bags or backpacks.
  • Any student diagnosed by a physician with any breathing issues will be able to opt-out of wearing a mask for short periods of time with a doctor’s note. The authorization must be submitted to the school nurse.
  • All students will be required to use face masks, covering nose and mouth, while indoors and in shared spaces.
  • Hand sanitizer and disinfectant spray are provided in every classroom. Where possible, handwashing stations with soap and water will be provided in classrooms.

EMPLOYEE HEALTH PROTOCOLS:
 
All Varnett Public School employees will be required to complete a self-screening, and temperature check daily. Any individual who (a) is lab-confirmed to have COVID-19; or (b) experiences the symptoms of COVID-19 must stay at home throughout the infection period. The Harris County Health Department will inform the employee and school nurse when the employee is able to return to school.
 
  • All employees will participate in training to understand and practice methods to protect themselves and others from COVID-19 at work.
  • All employees must practice appropriate cleaning, disinfection and hand hygiene.
  • All employees shall regularly wash their hands during the work day when reporting to work and after using the restroom.
  • All employees will wear masks and face shields at all times while on campus.
  • All employees shall maintain social distancing from others.
  • Employees must notify the nurse if they exhibit any symptoms
  • All employees shall know, understand, and practice methods to protect themselves, and others from COVID-19 at work.
  • All employees must practice appropriate cleaning, disinfection, and hand hygiene.
  • All employees shall use non-medical grade face masks, covering nose and mouth, while in common indoor space.
